Macon-Bibb Firefighters tee off to support Muscular Dystrophy Association
The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department spent the morning on the greens, all for a good cause.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Firefighters and community members came together Friday for the department’s annual MDA Golf Tournament at Bowden Golf Course. The event raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which supports research and advocacy for people living with neuromuscular diseases.
“It’s a great event for us because all the proceeds that we get from this tournament we actually able to donate back to the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “MDA is huge in the fire service. This is just one of the events that we have locally to be able to contribute and then the other side of it is the fellowship with the firefighters and different people in our community that come out and play with us just come out and have a really good time.”
The tournament featured a four-person scramble, a silent auction and lunch for all participants. Sponsorships and team fees went directly toward MDA’s mission to help families affected by muscular dystrophy across Middle Georgia and beyond.
Chief Edwards says the tournament is one of their favorite ways to give back, combining a love for golf with a strong commitment to community service.
