Atrium Health Navicent shares tips for flu season

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Atrium Health Navicent is sharing tips ahead of the upcoming flu season.

Dr. Omar Ahmad says the flu normally starts in October, peaks between December and February, and can last until May.

He adds that the best way to prepare for flu season is by getting vaccinated, practicing good hygiene, covering your cough, and staying home if you feel sick.

“We recommend the influenza vaccine for ages 6 months and older,” Ahmad said. “The most at risk for influenza are children less than five years of age and 65 and older.”

Dr. Omar Ahmad encourages people to talk with their provider about the flu shot and ask questions.
