Ex-Assistant Coach Sues Atlanta Hawks Over Pension

ATLANTA – A former Atlanta Hawks assistant coach has filed a federal lawsuit claiming the franchise failed to contribute to his pension fund during his first season with the team.

Jim Todd said in the lawsuit that the Hawks failed to make the annual contribution to an NBA pension plan designed for coaches during the 2008-2009 season after he opted not to participate in the team’s 401(k) program.

Todd’s lawsuit was filed in federal court in Atlanta on Dec. 30.

Todd was hired in July 2008 and was with the Hawks for two seasons. He was hired as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings in December 2011.

The team’s attorney did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Todd’s lawyer Peter Farley wouldn’t comment on the pending litigation.
