Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center hosts cookout for seniors during Night to Unite

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Seniors got to join the party on Tuesday as the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center threw a cookout in Carolyn Crayton Park as a part of Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Night to Unite.
Various business and food vendors were in attendance such as Pinky’s Shaved Ice and Scream 4 Cream Ice Cream.
Seniors were having a good time, laughing and dancing to music from DJ Chill.

“I’m just so happy to be out here,” said Acquanetta Deaton, a Local Resident. “One thing I can say about Macon-Bibb County, they do a lot of wonderful things for the seniors and we out enjoying this beautiful weather, having a ball, having a ball,” Deaton said laughing.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Night to Unite encourages the community to unite against crime by spending the day with neighbors, deputies, local government officials, and firefighters.

Elricia Smith, Coordinator 2 for Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center, who also served as the MC, says months of planning goes into events like these and seniors always enjoy them.
“It means everything to them, being home can be lonely for some of the seniors,” said Smith. “The great thing about the Senior Center and events like this, is they get out and fellowship with their peers and they get to travel and do things they normally wouldn’t get to do if they are homebound.”
