Local pet shelter “PAWS” at risk of closure
"It's really hard! I've been with the rescue for three years. Poured my heart and soul into it, and to see it possibly go downhill, is very very sad", said Gomez.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Paws in Middle Georgia Animal Rescue says it’s close to losing their current location.
According to President of the shelter Jessica Gomez, after some confusion with thee landlord not renewing their lease, they will have to find a new home by December. Gomez says ‘Paws’ has saved over 900 animals since opening in 2001.
“It’s really hard, I’ve been with the rescue for three years. Poured my heart and soul into it, and to see it possibly go downhill, is very very sad”, said Gomez.
She fears what will happen if they can’t find a new place soon.
“I have no doubt even if we go foster based. But our volunteer’s will suffer they won’t get that interaction with the animals up here. The walks about the lakes, the play time out back. We have a whole community here and that will pretty much go away until we find our new place”, said Gomez.
Shift leader Melissa Hanson says even with the fear of the unknown, they need to focus on the present.
“But we know the community were in, we know the good we do, and there are a lot of rescues doing good work right now, there all full…so that means were still needed”, she said.
Hanson explains how the community to help.
“You might be able to donate, you might know someone just by passing the word that has a perfect property were all our babies can be happy, until we find them a home…everyone can help in some way”, shared Hanson.
Gomez says no matter what’s happening at the moment, it’s all about our four-legged friends.
“To continue helping the animals and the community. We provide so much good, so that is the end goal to continue doing that”, said Gomez.
If you’re interested in helping the shelter, you can donate to the shelter, adopt an animal, or participate in their upcoming golf tournament on Halloween.
