Woman arrested after 140-mph police chase in Jones County
According to a news release, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Demetric Bazi of Ellenwood after learning she had multiple active warrants.

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman was arrested after leading Jones County deputies on a high-speed chase that reached 140 mph and briefly ran into the woods before being tased, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. The incident happened August 12 just before 8 p.m.
According to a news release, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Demetric Bazi of Ellenwood after learning she had multiple active warrants. Bazi initially pulled over but fled once the warrants were confirmed.
The pursuit reached speeds of 140 mph and put other drivers in danger, the release said. At one point, Bazi activated her turn signal and moved over for another motorist while fleeing.
Deputies used a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuver) to stop the vehicle. Bazi then ran toward a wooded area but was quickly apprehended and tased, according to the sheriff’s office.
She is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and obstruction, in addition to four outstanding warrants.
