MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Mercer University’s campus was buzzing with excitement over the weekend as hundreds of new students arrived for the upcoming fall semester.
It was a bittersweet day across campus as families helped their kids unload cars and move into the dorms. Four freshmen, Sophie from Fallston, Maryland; Avery from Milton, Georgia; Eva from Long Island, New York; and Caroline from Virginia, expressed their anticipation about starting their college journey, saying they were overwhelmed but excited.
The freshmen already share a connection; they met while playing lacrosse and are now set to become teammates on the Mercer women’s lacrosse team.
To kick off the new academic year, the university held its annual Fall Convocation Monday at 1 p.m., featuring a lineup and procession on the historic quad that concluded inside Hawkins Arena. Classes are set to begin on Tuesday, marking the official start of the semester for these eager students.
