Ashley Newberry, with the School House Health program, said the partnership began in 1994.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/ WMGT-DT) – The School House Health program is a partnership between the Bibb County Board of Education and Children’s Hospital Atrium Health Navicent that provides primary health services to students in Bibb County public schools.

Ashley Newberry, with the School House Health program, said the partnership began in 1994. She said the program is staffed by trained healthcare professionals who care for students during school hours.

School House Health offers a variety of services, including treatment of acute illness or injury, chronic disease management, nutrition education and staff training. Nurses also support flu vaccine clinics in partnership with the Bibb County Health Department, provide parent education, and take part in school events like open houses and health fairs. These efforts aim to keep students healthy, in class, and parents at work.

Newberry said the program helps improve student attendance through health promotion and disease management, which supports academic success. It also benefits school staff by saving time, improving wellness, and helping schools stay compliant with state and federal healthcare regulations.
