MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – All Macon-Bibb County Recreation Centers will be closed on Friday as the department hosts a day of employee training and celebration in honor of National Park and Recreation Month.

The department will recognize its 90 team members with a Luau-themed event at the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center, located at 132 Willie Smokie Glover Drive.

“We truly have the best staff, and they deserve to be celebrated,” Recreation Director Robert Walker said. “This celebration will allow us to all get together in one room, learn from one another, and celebrate our successes.”

The event will include food, games, music, team-building activities and a Hawaiian-themed atmosphere to show appreciation for the department’s employees. The day also serves as a training opportunity to strengthen teamwork and enhance service delivery across the department’s programs.

This celebration comes on the heels of a busy summer for the department. Earlier this month, the Recreation Department wrapped up its annual six-week summer camp, which was held at eight centers and served more than 500 students.
