Byron Firefighter Injured During House Fire
The Peach County fire department and the Byron fire department were on the scene. The fire started just after 1pm this afternoon at 1141 Chapman rd in Bryon. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles along highway 75 south just before the 149 exit. The home was fully engulfed in flames when fire fighter arrived on the scene. According to the Byron fire chief, firefighter Steven Smith was inside the home when a beam fell on his shoulder. Emergency crews rushed to pull him out of the house. Smith was taken to the hospital listed in stable condition. Neighbor Denise Jones says she couldn’t believe her Neighbors home was on fire.
“Just a lot of black smoke and fire. The whole house was engulfed said Jones”.
The Byron Fire Chief says Smith has been with the fire department for 3 year. Smith is expected to be treated and release from the hospital. The owner of the home was not home when the fire started. The home was destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
