MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Heat Advisory has been issued for portions of eastern Georgia where heat indices over 105 are anticipated this afternoon. Widespread highs in the 90s and Screenshot 2025 07 21 035733Screenshot 2025 07 21 035916Screenshot 2025 07 21 035700heat indices between 100 and 109 degrees are expected. Some relief from the heat may arrive in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. Hot and humid conditions and the positioning of the upper level ridge over Louisiana will set Georgia up for scattered thunderstorms. Western Georgia should have the best combination of heating, moisture, and instability and will be favored for the most widespread storm activity. Storms will be possible anywhere in the state between noon and 10 pm. The main concern will  be localized downburst winds. There is currently a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) from the Storm Prediction Center for northern Georgia. The tropical moisture and relatively weak steering winds will be here to stay Tuesday.
