Monroe County Investigators arrest 15 in identity theft operation

Monroe County Investigators say the operation began in March, geared toward stopping individuals they say were stealing from businesses and residents.

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Multiple suspects are in custody after the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrests 15 in ‘Operation Fall Guy’.

Investigators say the operation began in March, geared toward stopping individuals they say were stealing from businesses and residents.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, there were 14 identified victims in this case with a total of 272 checks that were altered. They the investigations spans across the United States, with multiple banks being utilized by 57 total suspects in the case.

Investigators have secured 123 warrants for the aforementioned suspects. Their charges range from identity theft fraud, forgery, as well as printing and executing fictitious checks.

They say the suspects attempted to fraudulently obtain a total of $2.1 million.
