MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – While fireworks are a highlight of Independence Day celebrations for many, they can be a source of stress and danger for pets.
Animal Control Officer Daniel Mitchell with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Division said it’s important for pet owners to take steps to protect their animals during the holiday.
He recommends keeping pets indoors in a secure space, such as a crate or small bedroom, during fireworks shows to reduce anxiety and prevent panic.
Mitchell also suggests consulting with a veterinarian about calming medications or using over-the-counter options from a local pet store.

He also emphasized the importance of microchipping pets. If a pet runs away and is found, a vet or shelter can scan the chip and contact the owner.
