Shopping Locally for Christmas Helps Stimulate the Local Economy

Despite the struggling economy, there’s no shortage of holiday cheer in downtown Macon; but, as more and more people travel to the mall and other department stores for their holiday needs, it’s easy to forget the little guys.

“We really need that support because without everybody shopping locally, we wouldn’t be here,” says Grace Anderson, manager at Ginger Michelle boutique on First Street.

It just takes a little exploring, but you can find interesting and unique gifts at local museum shops, and boutiques, like Ginger Michelle or The Gallery, both on First Street.

“At christmastime we just have tons and tons of things that people–artists in the region make,” says Jim Coleman, Executive Director of the Macon Arts Alliance.

Keeping these folks in business, keeps Macon in business.
