Sen. Jason Anavitarte elected Georgia Senate Majority Leader
Republican from Dallas to lead Senate GOP agenda through 2026

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Georgia Senate Republican Caucus has elected Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas) as Majority Leader of the Georgia State Senate, the caucus announced Tuesday.
According to a news release from the Georgia Senate Press Office, Anavitarte will assume the leadership role immediately, serving as the principal legislative strategist and floor leader for the Senate Republican Caucus through the remainder of the 2025–2026 legislative biennium.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me,” Anavitarte said in a statement. “The people of Georgia, and the 31st Senate District, elected a Republican majority to lead boldly, govern responsibly, and protect our values.”
He added, “Hardworking Georgians across West Georgia and beyond are counting on us, and I intend to meet this moment with focus, discipline, and a commitment to improving lives across our state.”
A rising Republican leader
Anavitarte previously served as Majority Caucus Chair and has represented the 31st Senate District—covering Paulding and Polk counties—since 2021.
During his tenure, he has prioritized legislation to expand school choice, bolster public safety, support teachers, protect children, and reduce taxes.
His political career includes service on the Doraville City Council and the Paulding County Board of Education. Early in his career, Anavitarte made history as one of the youngest Hispanic elected officials in Georgia, according to the announcement.
The Senate Majority Leader plays a key role in shaping and advancing the Republican agenda in the upper chamber of the General Assembly.
“As we move through the remainder of the legislative interim, I’m ready to get to work,” Anavitarte said.
