Atrium pediatrician shares summer safety tips for kids
Dr. Mansi Batra said it is important to limit screen time, especially for children between the ages of 2 and 5.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A pediatrician from Atrium Health Navicent is offering safety tips to help parents keep their children healthy this summer.
Dr. Mansi Batra says children should eat fruits and vegetables rather than processed or sugary foods.
She also stresses the importance of limiting screen time, especially for children between the ages of 2 and 5. Children in that age group should have no more than one hour of screen time per day, and those under age 2 should avoid screen time altogether, Batra said.
She encourages parents to prioritize outdoor activities, puzzles, baking and other indoor games that promote engagement.
For families spending time outside, Batra advises avoiding peak sun hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. She also recommends wearing sunscreen and reapplying it throughout the day.
In addition, she says staying hydrated is essential for kids during the summer months.
