MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The deadline for the Knight Emerging City Champions fellowship is quickly approaching.

Rachel Umana, executive director of Bike Walk Macon, was the first fellowship winner from Macon in 2015.

She said she used her $5,000 micro grant winnings to host social bicycle rides, which years later turned into her now nonprofit, Bike Walk Macon.

The fellowship is hosted by an organization out of Toronto called 8 80 Cities. It gives people ages 18 to 35 an opportunity to improve their community with a bold idea.

The winner of the fellowship receives a trip to Toronto, a $5,000 micro grant and guidance from leaders from across the country to help bring their vision to life.

The fellowship application deadline is May 28. Applicants can apply at Emerging City Champions.
