MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The line was wrapped around Brad Henderson Memorial Stadium, the reason, cabbages.

40,000 pounds worth of cabbages came in on a truck this afternoon donated by farmers out of Moultrie, Georgia.

Various volunteers and even the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department help pass out the heavy boxes of cabbages and if cabbage wasn’t enough to suit your taste, turkey legs were also being cooked by Dem Turkey Leg Boyz.

AL Tillman, Facilities Manager for Henderson Stadium, says it’s more than just a sports stadium and they will be using it to give back on a even larger scale.

“We just thank and appreciate everybody because our community is suffering,” said Tillman. “This is a distressed community as it relates to food and so, we are giving back the best we can today and today, on that truck, we receive 40,000 pounds of cabbages and we have enough for everybody that is going to be in line.”

“If you notice 95% of the people that’s pulling up are senior citizens and we’re not going to judge people, regardless of what kind of car you drive or your income level. Everybody needs a little bit of help.”

“We recognize that people need to eat and so we can accept these trucks or we can reject these trucks.”

According to Tillman, the giveaway was made possible by Teeger Entertainment and its partners, Macon-Bibb Small Business Affairs, along with the Society of St. Andrew and Macon Rampage.
