GBI investigating deadly shooting in Telfair County

Jykerrion Maurice Oliver was found dead after deputies responded to a shooting on April 18

MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the death of 21-year-old Jykerrion Maurice Oliver, who was shot and killed Friday evening in Telfair County.

According to preliminary information from the GBI, Telfair County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a shooting around 5:10 p.m. on April 18. Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The individual who fired the shot has claimed self-defense, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
