Heating Energy Assistance Help Delayed Until Further Notice
Hundreds of families here in Macon and Bibb County will not get heating energy assistance help Thursday as planned, and the economic opportunity council says the funds have been delayed until further notice.
Thursday December first is supposed to be the day low-income families receive help with their energy bill, but at a press conference today, the Macon- Bibb Economic Opportunity Council says, unitl furthur notice, that’s not going to happen. Every year, during the winter months, the low-income home energy assistance program helps thousands of families with their heating bill. Funds for the home-bound and senior population were distributed in November, but those funds have been exhausted. Executive Director Jimmie Samuel says the ball is in Congress’s court.
“So people are being caught in the middle of the politics of what’s going on between Republicans, Democrats and others and people are hurting and not enough folks seem to be giving a dam about that. That is a real concern” said Samuel.
The Macon Bibb county E-O-C says, they will keep the public informed of any updates and a new date for the general public to get heating energy assistance.
