Georgia DECAL launches $500 workforce bonuses for child care staff in 2025
Thousands of early childhood educators will receive financial bonuses through the new Quality Rated Workforce Bonus program
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- More than 34,000 child care professionals across Georgia are set to receive a financial boost thanks to a new initiative from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). The agency announced the launch of the Quality Rated Workforce Bonuses (QRWB) program, which will provide $500 annual bonuses to eligible full-time staff at Quality Rated child care programs.
The initiative represents a $17 million annual investment in Georgia’s early education workforce and is among the first of its kind in the country. It reflects DECAL’s commitment to improving the quality of care for Georgia’s youngest learners by recognizing and rewarding the educators who meet or exceed state standards.
“I am pleased that DECAL is able to invest $17 million a year to award these bonuses to the hard-working professionals and staff at programs delivering high-quality care and education to Georgia’s children,” said DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs.
Who is eligible for the $500 bonus?
The bonuses are available to all on-site teachers and support staff employed full-time at programs that have earned 1, 2, or 3 stars under Quality Rated, Georgia’s official quality rating and improvement system. Each eligible staff member may receive one $500 bonus per year.
“These payments serve as recognition for the hard work and dedication that early education professionals demonstrate daily in their efforts to help child care programs achieve and maintain their star ratings,” said Dr. Bentley Ponder, Deputy Commissioner for Quality Innovations and Partnerships.
How is the program funded?
The program is funded through the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), a federal grant designed to enhance the quality of child care and after-school programs, as well as provide support to low-income working families.
