Macon Celebrates ‘World AIDS Day’ With Ceremony of Hope
In honor of World AIDS Day, dozens gathered at High Street Church in Macon, to remember lives lost to the disease, while spreading a message of encouragement.
The ceremony included live music and prayers of hope for those living with the virus. Macon city councilman, Rabbi Larry Schlesinger, read a proclamation from Mayor Robert Reichert. It declares December 1st, World AIDS Day, in the city of Macon.
“We’ve come a long way but we’ve still got a lot of work to do,” says Rabbi Schlesinger.
Today President Obama announced his goal to significantly increase access to life saving AIDS drugs. He pledged $50 million dollars to help those with the disease here in the U.S. and around the world.
