MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Gallbladder surgery is a major procedure, and Piedmont Macon is celebrating 1,000 successful robotic gallbladder surgeries.
Dr. John Williams has performed 1,000 successful robotic gallbladder surgeries and says he’s not stopping anytime soon. Dr. Williams of Piedmont Macon said the robotic program has changed many lives. He credits advancements in technology for making a world of difference.
“It represents a long time in my career, over 10 years. I’ve seen technology change. I’ve surpassed the learning curve, so now I’ll take on any gallbladder patient in any condition, and I get it done, usually,” Williams said.
Williams said seeing his patients’ lives change is his greatest satisfaction.
“It’s very satisfying to see them go home and come back into the office. They’re like brand-new people— all the symptoms are gone, and few complications, if any,” Williams said.
Williams praised his team at Piedmont, saying they work together to ensure the best results for patients.
“This robotic program and this hospital, it’s like a tight family. I participate in training people in this robotic surgery. Doing these surgeries has made me more aware of the team atmosphere, and everybody has their roles. We get patients taken care of, and we have good outcomes,” Williams said.
Unadilla Mayor Myron Mixon said he was experiencing pain, but doctors dismissed his concerns. After one visit to Dr. Williams, his life was changed.
“Dr. Williams, if I need anything, if it’s gallbladder surgery, he’s doing it. He’s my man. I don’t care what it is, whatever it is, he’s doing it,” Mixon said.
Mixon said he was concerned about his health while traveling for work, but Dr. Williams reassured him.
“He took all that pressure off me. I’m one of those folks—if there’s something wrong with me, I want it gone. Dr. Williams got it gone,” Mixon said.
