Three arrested after attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison

Deputies arrested three people related to an attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison in Davisboro on March 3 at 11:45 p.m.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Three people were arrested after an attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison on Monday night, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison in Davisboro happened on March 3 at 11:45 p.m.

According to a news release, a deputy was alerted about a package that had been dropped onto the prison grounds. The deputy later stopped a vehicle for speeding and, during the stop, detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy determined that the suspects in the vehicle were involved in the drop.

Deputies recovered 15 pounds of tobacco, 5 pounds of marijuana, drone-related items, and other evidence from the drop. Two firearms were also seized from the suspects, but deputies believe they were not intended for the drop.

18-year-old Tristin Butler of Ellewood, 24-year-old Corey Woods of Atlanta, and 22-year-old Rafael Batista of Conyers were arrested.

Butler was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, unauthorized use of unmanned aircraft, items prohibited without authorization marijuana, items prohibited without authorization tobacco, crossing guard lines with contraband, and trading with inmates.

Woods was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of firearm by convicted felon, unauthorized use of unmanned aircraft, items prohibited without authorization marijuana, items prohibited without authorization tobacco, trading with inmates, crossing guard lines with contraband, and possession of marijuana.

Batista was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, unauthorized use of unmanned aircraft, items prohibited without authorization marijuana, items prohibited without authorization tobacco, trading with inmates, crossing guard lines with contraband and possession of marijuana.
