U.S. pauses Ukraine aid, devastating war-torn ally

Analysts warn that President Donald Trump’s decision to pause military aid to Ukraine could have devastating consequences for the country’s war efforts.

CNN- Analysts warn that President Donald Trump’s decision to pause military aid to Ukraine could have devastating consequences for the country’s war efforts.

“You are looking at basically cascading effects that could have a major impact on the ability of the Ukrainians to conduct the war,” said retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Cedric Leighton.

An official stated that the freeze on aid could remain in place until Kyiv commits to peace talks. Trump and his senior aides reportedly want Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to acknowledge last Friday’s heated Oval Office exchange. According to officials, Zelensky may be expected to issue a public apology before aid discussions resume, or before any deal on Ukraine’s rare earth metals is considered.

“There was a lack of respect. There was a sense of entitlement,” said Vice President Vance, commenting on the Oval Office dispute.

While Ukraine currently has enough stockpiled resources to sustain its fighting capabilities for a few weeks, analysts highlight that it relies on the U.S. for its most advanced weaponry. Though European nations continue to provide support, the freeze on American aid could significantly impact Ukraine’s defense strategy.

“Donald Trump is a strong leader, and we need his strength to be on the side of the weak,” said Van Jones, a former member of the Obama administration.

Some experts also suggest that the decision to withhold aid could carry political risks for Trump.

“Support for Russia and support for Putin is not high, and so Trump is testing the bounds of how far he can go with this,” said Maggie Haberman, White House Correspondent for The New York Times.
