CDC Picks Macon For Breast Cancer Study

A new study to help detect breast cancer will take place in Macon.

Over the next 3 years the Center for Disease Control will work with the North Central Health District looking for a hereditary link between patients and breast cancer.

Georgia is 1 of 3 states receiving a $900,000 grant from the CDC.
Macon was chosen because of its high rate of breast cancer.

“We’re hoping that by being a hot bed… if you will of breast cancer we can come up with some way to lessen the frequency if not the frequency at least catch the early detection,” says Dr. David Harvey, Director of the North Central Health District.
