Parents outraged over non-renewal of principal, assistant principal contracts at Alexander II Magnet School
"There’s been a lack of transparency, and we need answers more than anything."

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Parents are sounding the alarm and voicing their anger and frustration following the surprising decision not to renew the contracts of Principal Angel Woodard, and Assistant Principal Doctor Meredith Byrd at Alexander II Magnet School.
Many parents are feeling blindsided by the sudden announcement, leaving them searching for answers from the school board.
“The Board of Education failed to communicate any information,” said Rocio Garcia, the PTA president at Alexander II.
She emphasized the announcement caught parents off guard, especially considering the school’s high ranking in the district.
According to School Digger, a website that ranks schools in your area, Alexander II Magnet School ranks first among 20 Elementary Schools in Bibb County. Great Schools.org, which gives schools ratings and reviews, awards the institution a 9 out of 10 rating.
Parents are calling for transparency from the school board.
“There’s been a lack of transparency, and we need answers more than anything,” said Garcia.
Jessica Vance, another concerned parent, stated the school board must publicly address their choices.
“Without that, I’m just thinking there might be some sort of corruption if they won’t come out and say what it is,” she said.
Vance is also concerned about the impact the decision will have on the students.
“They prefer some level of stability, and to get rid of both of them at the same time is going to be such a difference,” said Vance.
In response to the board’s actions, parents have organized a peaceful protest scheduled for March 7 at the Bibb County Board of Education at 11:00 a.m. They’re also urging the community to attend the monthly Board of Education meeting on March 20 at 4:30 p.m. to voice their concerns as well.
