Dooly County receive financial help to boost literacy efforts

Currently, 4th graders, in Georgia rank 28th in the country in reading proficiency.

DOOLY COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dooly County students were recently named as Georgia Reads Community Awards winners and Read Bowl Champions.

Currently, 4th graders, in Georgia rank 28th in the country in reading proficiency.

That’s according, to the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Chairman of the Georgia Council on Literacy Scott Johnson said Georgia is working to strengthen students reading skills.

He said, part of that effort is making sure future educators learn the Science of Reading.

10 communities, including Dooly County, will also receive $25,000 to boost their literacy efforts and support through a 3-year partnership.
