Forsyth Family Gives Thanks This Holiday

The Landers will never forget April 28, 2011.

“Devastating, I mean horrible,” says Cristi Landers.

Her husband Christopher adds, “It’s crazy to think that all of us survived.”

It was that day they lost everything they owned to a tornado. They say it took three days and more than 100 volunteers to clear the lot where their house once stood in Forsyth.

“We’ll never be able to repay everybody in this community,” says Christopher.

Seven months later and the family is doing their best to be in good spirits.

“It’s hurting right now just to see a tree and nothing else up because I used to go all out. I’d have the house decorated inside and out and that’s what’s going to get me,” says Cristi.

However, the Landers shouldn’t be down for too long because their new house will be ready in less than six months.

Cristi says, “God had a plan for us to start our new life together and that’s what happened.”

The Landers say what’s lost are just material things.

“I’m thankful that we’re together,” says Christopher.

Christopher and Cristi Landers tied the knot in July, after volunteers found their wedding rings in the mud underneath a toilet. Cristi says she can’t wait to have something to call ‘home’ again.
