MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – On Friday night at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Hall in Macon, ten inductees into the G.S.H.O.F. Class of 2025 received their new honorary wardrobe at the Jacket Ceremony. In front of family, friends, old teammates and colleagues, emcee Bill Shanks read through the highlights of these legendary careers and what makes these athletes and coaches so special to the Peach State.
The ten inductees to the Class of 2025 include:
Two-time Olympic medal winner and former University of Georgia gymnast Courtney Kupets Carter. Cochran native and legendary high school baseball coach Terry Holder. Four-time MLB all-star and 2014 World Series Champion Tim Hudson. Former four-time Golden Glove winner and 1995 World Series Champion Marquse Grissom. Former NFL Wide Receiver for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons, during the 1998 Atlanta Super Bowl run, Terance Mathis. Former Atlanta Braves Pitching Coach and 1995 World Series winner Leo Mazzone. Veteran sportscaster and the longest-tenured play-by-play announcer in Hawks history Bob Rathbun. Former U.G.A. and Macon high school football legend Theron Sapp. Fourth-overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft and Georgia Tech basketball legend Dennis Scott, and former University of Georgia Women’s Tennis Coach Jeff Wallace.
Bill Shanks spoke on what this means to Macon and the future of Middle Georgia sports. “This is one of the premiere events in the city of Macon really when it comes to sports” said Shanks Friday night. “To have a state museum, but to have it kind of in our own back yard, so we’re very honored to have this year’s ten inductees here. We invite everyone to come out on Saturday to the FanFest to get autographs and pictures made with everybody, but its really just a huge event to be able to honor people that have made so many contributions to our state in sports, but to have it here in Downtown Macon, and I think it does inspire everybody to see where they can be if they have a great career. So, this is just a phenomenal weekend with people from all over the state. Braves, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Hawks, Falcons, to come here and all the fans to come here and to honor all these celebrities and these Hall of Famers.”
Saturday at the Hall, the FanFest autograph session will take place from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. The weekend concludes with the Induction Ceremony at Macon City Auditorium later that evening.
