The deep freeze is on for today and Friday

MACON, GEORGIA (41NBC/WMGT) – A strong Artic high over the Plains will produce tight surface
winds across Middle Georgia today. With gusty northwest winds temperatures will be extremely cold.
Peak wind gusts will be in the 20 to 30 mph range and the timeframe for those gusts will be between
10 AM and 6 PM. Wind chills between 12 and 20 degrees are expected.
A Cold Weather Advisory will remain in place through 10 AM this morning to emphasize the
increased risk for hypothermia from these very cold wind chills. Wind chills will improve somewhat
after 10 AM, but for most of the region below freezing wind chills will stay with us all day.
High temperatures this afternoon will struggle, remaining 16 to 26 degrees below normal.
This will make today the coldest day of February 2025 in Georgia.
Fair skies tonight with overnight lows falling into the teens and low 20s. Winds will gradually
diminish.
If you plan to be outdoors for any length of time, be sure to protect yourself and your pets from
the cold due to the risk of hypothermia. Also, there is a potential for frozen pipes tonight and Friday
