PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Parents, it’s time to go shopping! Tykes Tots & Teens Consignment Event is back at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

Hundreds of families dodged the raindrops on Wednesday to see if they could find some gems for their kiddos. The consignment sale has gently used children’s clothing, toys, car seats, and much more.

The event provides an opportunity to save big on items for babies, toddler and teens.

Local mom and dads sell their kids’ outgrown clothes, toys, car seats and so much more, all at a discounted price. Shoppers win big as they save from hefty retail prices.

Stephanie Woods, who traveled an hour to attend, was among the first shoppers to arrive at 9 a.m. to beat the long lines.

She was able to pack her cart with clothes, books and toys for her two children

“I love the sale,” she said. “I’ve been coming every time they have it for almost eight years now. I always come away with pretty much a cart full.”

Founder Laura Johnson started this consignment event 20 years ago as a way to provide for her daughter as a young mother. What began as a small production has transformed into a huge event.

“I didn’t realize the impact that it would really have on the local economy,” she said. “Local moms and dads, even school teachers and daycare centers, they’ll come and get things they need for the children in their lives.”

The event ends on Sunday.

Shoppers are encouraged to bring their shopping carts or wagons to assist with their finds.

This weekend also features exciting discount days. Saturday and Sunday night will offer 50% off items marked with a star on the tag, and the “Dollar Dash” is happening Sunday: Items tagged with a bold “D” will be just $1, regardless of the original price.
