Bibb County to Remember Retired Sheriff Raymond Wilkes

The Bibb County sheriff’s office and community members are mourning the loss of a dedicated leader tonight. Retired Sheriff, Raymond Wilkes, passed away Saturday. Wilkes served the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for 40 years. He began his career in 1952 as a deputy sheriff and retired in 1992.

Friends say he was admired by many. “He was well like by everybody. He was fair and friendly…just well loved by all of the community. I never heard a bad word spoken about Ray,” says childhood friend E. J Morgan.

A memorial service for Wilkes will take place tomorrow at Ingleside Baptist Church at 10 am.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says drivers can expect delays along Riverside Drive tomorrow morning and are urging drivers to use alternate routes if possible.
