?Budget Cuts Could Affect Those Who Get Heating Assistance
Budget cuts could affect those who get help from the government this winter. The energy assistance program provided help for 5 thousand households last year. Jimmy samuel, Executive Director for the macon-bibb economic opportunity council, says several programs that help people in need have been cut.
“The funds have been cut like everything else in the economy. So we are not sure what that cut is going to be but possibly as much as fifty percent from last year ” said, Jimmy Samuel .
You must be 65 years of age or older for the program. Applicants must provide a copy of your most recent energy bill, proof of household income, picture i-d, and a valid social security card. Starting at 7am Tuesday, the Department of Human services will be helping the first 150 people at saint Paul A-M-E Church on Shurling Drive. The heating energy assistance program will open for the general public starting in December.
