Bibb County declares February 7-14 National Marriage Week
Organizer and wife of 29 years, Tonya Moore, says her main solution for a successful marriage is communicating your needs.
Macon, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Mayor Lester Miller declared February 7-14 National Marriage Week in Macon-Bibb County.
Marriage is a special bond between two people for life. That is the case for Walter and April Sansbury, who have been married for 31 years and share their secret.
“You have to realize what marriage is and what it’s about. I think the secret is knowing what you’re starting before you start it,” said Walter Sansbury.
April Sansbury says happiness in a marriage is what you make of it.
“Happiness isn’t about events; it’s about having joy in the marriage and just having faith in God, understanding that He created it. We have to go to the Word of God, which is the truth about marriage,” she explained.
Organizer and wife of 29 years, Tonya Moore, says her main solution for a successful marriage is communicating your needs.
“Not walking on eggshells, but being genuine about the things you experience,” says Moore. “Enjoy it—most times, people think marriage is a ball and chain experience, but it’s not. I feel like it’s a covenant, not a contract, and when you view it from that perspective, it’s bigger than just you and your spouse.”
Moore says that being in a strong marriage means supporting each other through rough challenges.
“You have to laugh at yourself and not take life too seriously,” says Moore. “When things come up in your relationship, tackle them one at a time. Be open and honest about what you’re feeling. Understand that if I win, my husband wins, and if he wins, I win.”
