Walmart celebrates first responders with more than 300 game day meal baskets

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In just a few days, the Kansas City Chiefs will go head-to-head with the Philadelphia Eagles in the 59th Super Bowl, and Walmart is stepping up making sure our first responders still get to partake in a little game day celebration while on duty.
Teams from local Walmarts delivered Football Tailgate Bundles to more than 100 firehouses across the state on Tuesday. The game day meals baskets were filled with tasty treats like rolled sausages, chips and soft drinks and were distributed to all 22 fire stations in the Macon-Bibb area alone.
“We know that we’re at home with our families while they’re out in the field, so just something small that we can give them,” local store manager, George Vega, said. “We can’t do enough for our first responders. That’s what Walmart truly cares about—giving back to the community and serving our community.”
Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Chief Shane Edwards was thankful for the thoughtful gesture.
“Working Super Bowl Sunday, working 24-hour shifts, seven days a week, taking care of our community, our firefighters are always on the spot always working,” he said. “To have an organization like Walmart come in and offer this token of appreciation means a great deal to our firefighters.”
