GDOT encourages people to stay off roads, offers tips for those who have to drive
District Communications Officer at the Georgia Department of Transportation , Gina Snider, says GDOT had been monitoring the situation since last week and brining the roads since Sunday.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says people need to stay off the roads due to unsafe driving conditions.
District Communications Officer at the Georgia Department of Transportation, Gina Snider, says GDOT had been monitoring the situation since last week and brining the roads since Sunday.
“We put put over 300,000 gallons of brine in the last three days,” says Snider. “So we’ve touched every interstate and state route, we tried to anyway.”
Snider said GDOT knew the winter storm was going to hit below Atlanta, but they were unsure how many inches of snow the area would receive.
“Stay off the roads, limit your travel as much as possible,” says Snider. “If you don’t need to be on the roads, please just stay home.”
Snider says staying off the roads is important because it allows GDOT crews room to work on the roads and treat them. Snider adds that if you are an essential worker and need to drive, download the 511 Georgia app to see up-to-date information.
