Nine inmates hospitalized after gang-related altercation at Wilcox State Prison

GDC did confirm that the incident appears to have been gang-related.

WILCOX COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Nine inmates at the Wilcox State Prison were hospitalized after a gang-related altercation on Thursday, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC).

According to the news release, an altercation took place among multiple inmates on January 9.

Nine inmates received non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at local area hospitals. GDC says three of those inmates remain hospitalized and six have returned to the facility.

No staff were injured during the altercation. GDC did confirm that the incident appears to have been gang-related.
