Coroner: 2 dead, 2 injured after multiple-vehicle crash in Wilkinson County

"We have had multiple accidents there and multiple fatalities at this one intersection," says Coroner Thomas.

WILKINSON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two people are dead and two are injured after a multiple-vehicle crash on Monday in Wilkinson County, according to Coroner Dusty Thomas.

The fatal crash happened at 5:20 a.m. on December 30. Coroner Thomas says the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 112 and Highway 441.

According to Thomas, a white SUV was heading East on Highway 112 and a semi-truck log trailer was traveling South on Highway 441. The white SUV did not stop at the stop sign on Highway 112 and drove in front of the semi-truck. The semi-truck struck the SUV on the driver’s side.

The white SUV had four occupants inside from Savannah, Tennessee. The driver, 55-year-old Katie Sue Dixon, and the passenger in the front seat, Jerome Dixon, died from the accident. Coroner Thomas confirmed the deceased were married.

The 7-year-old male passenger behind the driver seat was taken to a hospital in Macon. The child is listed in stable condition. Coroner Thomas confirmed the child was on the side of impact from the semi-truck. The child was restrained in a booster seat and had the least amount of injuries. Coroner Thomas says the child was alert and talking to law enforcement.

The 43-year-old male passenger in the backseat was taken to a hospital in Dublin and later airlifted to a hospital in Macon. The 43-year-old is listed in critical condition.

According to the Coroner, the semi-truck driver is alive and not injured.

“We have had multiple accidents there and multiple fatalities at this one intersection,” says Coroner Thomas. “DOT is in the talks right now of putting a roundabout at that location.”
