Bibb County Residents Weigh in on SPLOST

Bibb County residents are deciding whether a penny tax is worth paying.

The money will pay for new fire stations, upgrades to the Bibb County Courthouse,
and close to $40 million for parks and recreation improvements.

$190 million dollars are at stake, and city and county leaders have been aggressive with promoting the 2011 SPLOST, but in a few weeks the decision will be out of their hands.

Bibb County resident Donald Richardson says, “I’m somewhat in the middle of the two opposing forces. “

The money will improve public safety, debt retirement, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and economic development.

Community members say that money could be used in better ways.

“I don’t see how helping museums is helping the people that live here,” says Bibb County resident Michelle Peoples.
