Bears prepares for biggest test of all against the Bison
The Mercer University Football team (11-2) now face their toughest test yet on the road in the NCAA FCS Quarterfinals

MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mercer Bears picked up their eleventh win on the season, most in a season in program history, to continue on into the elite eight of the NCAA FCS college football playoffs, after a close defensive home win over Rhode island Saturday 17-10cto capture the 50th win at Five Star Stadium. This is the first time in program history the Bears have made it this far in the playoffs; to join the many other firsts this program has set this season.
Mercer gets set to travel almost 1,500 miles to North Dakota State, where the most successful program of the last twenty years, the 11-2 North Dakota State Bison, are awaiting them at the FargoDome.
At the weekly Mercer press conference on Monday, Coach Jacobs spoke about what he sees from the Bison on tape going into Saturday afternoon’s matchup.
“Looking forward now to being one of eight teams left” said Jacobs Monday. “We’ve now set the record for wins in a season with 11. We are further than we have ever been in the tournament, and we have the opportunity to go on the road and play in one of the best college football environments at any level in the FargoDome against the team that arguably over the last 15-20 years, has been really the lead at this level.”
Jacobs went on to say, “I think it’s a really good measuring stick for our program and we are looking forward to the challenge to go and play a really, really good football team next Saturday. They do the things well that we want. They are remarkably consistent at what they do, and they are as physical as any team I’ve seen on film, and they do their stuff better than most. They are a really good football team.”
Kickoff at the FargoDome in North Dakota is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. eastern.
