Local Students Say NO to Drugs

Schools around Middle Georgia are promoting substance-free lifestyles duirng Red Ribbon Week.  Events are held to steer kids away from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. 

Wednesday students at Northside Middle School in Houston County listened to guests from the Georgia National Guard Counter-drug Task Force.  The team’s presentation focused on the different types of drugs and the effects they have on the body.

“We have students who see a lot of things either with their friends or even in the neighborhood and we want to make sure that we’re proactive before they get to high school so they can recognize when something doesn’t look right and know the best choices to make,” said Amanda Brantley, Northside Middle School Assistant Principal.

The National Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the country.  It has reached millions of children nationwide.
