The Lady Bears Prepare for Mississippi State
The Mercer Lady Bears (2-2) now prepare for a tough road test against an SEC opponent

MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Lady Bears, under first year head coach Michelle Clark-Heard are 2-2 through four games so far this season, after picking up a home win at Hawkins Arena Sunday afternoon over North Carolina A&T 46-38.
Before their fifth game of the season tips off Wednesday night at Mississippi State, Coach Heard spoke at Monday’s Mercer press conference on what this Mercer squad likes about themselves so far this season, and how they can improve on their inexperience to prepare for a tough SEC opponent.
“When you have a young team, and you’re growing, and learning, you have to learn from wins and losses” Coach Heard said Monday. “I think we did a great job of coming back and putting everything we needed to put together for us to have an opportunity to win the game. Every single day we are working to get better and better so we can have an opportunity to win in the long run. So, I’m definitely proud of this group and just our fight, our grit, how we stuck together, how we didn’t get frustrated to the point when the ball wasn’t going in. My job as a coach and as a coaching staff, it’s for us to figure out a way where we can put more points on the board.”
Coach Heard went onto speak about the game Wednesday night. “We’ll be prepared. We’ll be prepared for their press. We’ll be prepared for the things that we need to, and I think that my job as a coach is to make sure that our players are confident going in, and that we are relaxed, and that they enjoy their environment. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about. To be able to put them in a position where they can be on a national stage in a big time conference, and have the opportunity to compete.”
Tip-off at Humphrey Coliseum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. eastern.
