MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.) made two stops in Middle Georgia on Wednesday, campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of November’s presidential election.

Speaking at Ted Wright Memorial Park in Bonaire, Beshear encouraged voters to cast their ballots early and work to get others to the polls as well. Once considered a top candidate to be Harris’s running mate, Beshear is now working to boost turnout for Democrats in rural parts of battleground states like Georgia, something he was able to do in each of his two election victories.

“Every vote across Georgia counts just the same,” Beshear said. “So my goal today is to make sure that this campaign is pushing as hard as it can to get every vote for the vice president in each and every county and each and every area of Georgia.”

Turnout in urban areas like Macon will also be crucial. Caroline Exum has been knocking on doors and making calls to mobilize voters in the area.

“I’ve been doing a lot of phone banking and really trying to spread awareness for this election,” Exum said.

Wearing red, white and blue “vote” earrings, and a T-shirt that read “Cat Ladies for Harris”, Exum attended a Vote With Me Early Block Party at Macedonia Church in Macon. Exum said she was excited to hear from Beshear and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Tx.)

“I’m a huge fan of hers, so I really wanted to come,” Exum said.

At the event, Exum connected with voters who, like her, are trying to encourage others to make their voices heard. She says she has always enjoyed voting, but being in a swing state for this year’s election makes it even more meaningful.

“We are really a part of history,” Exum said. “A part of seeing this country turn and seeing the blue wave come. That’s what we really need to happen.”

Gov. Beshear encourages Middle Georgians to be like Exum and do everything they can to make a difference.

“Get involved, volunteer,” Beshear said. “We’re down to the last several weeks. Every door that’s knocked and every call that’s made can make a huge difference.”
