Fire Prevention Week Helps Kids Be Prepared for Emergencies
It’s fire prevention week! Local firefighters showed kids how to be prepared if disaster strikes.
Kids got to experience what riding in a firetruck is like at Fire House Subs on Riverside Dr.
They also learned the 3 P’s of fire safety-planning, practice, and prevention. Lt. Demetrius Ellison with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department says it’s important to educate children about fire safety.
“They’re like our tools, they’re like my little fire marshalls,” Ellison said of the children that attended the Fire Safety Seminar. “They can go home and they can stay on their parents about making sure that they need to test the smoke detectors, making sure that they draw up a fire escape plan and practice it, and once they practice, practice again, practice going out the door, going out the windows.”
Fire Prevention week continues for the next five days. Tomorrow at 5 pm,
there will be a Kids Fire safety night out at the Chick-Fil-A on Zebulon Rd.
From Wednesday to Saturday, fire safety exhibits will be displayed at the Macon Mall.
