Wesleyan College Kicks Off 175th Anniversary
Wesleyan College celebrated its official start to its fall academic school year. This year marks the 175th anniversary of the school. Wesleyan College was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women.
Thursday’s 2011 Fall Convocation celebrated the school’s international students by displaying 24 flags from different counties. Former student Kay Stripling Byer recited an original poem at the convocation in honor of this years anniversary mark.
This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Carolyn Newton Curry. Curry founded the Women Alone Together.
Throughout the year Wesleyan College plans on holding special events to celebrate the school’s milestone.
