New Memorial Park Honors Fallen Heroes

Local leaders honored 28 service men who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Macon Police Chief Mike Burns, Bibb County Sheriff Jerry Modena, and Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins unveiled three granite memorial plaques.

The Public Safety Memorial Park on 2nd and Mulberry Street in downtown Macon has the names of those service men who lost their lives in the line of duty.

One day after the 10th anniversary of 9/11, leaders say it was the perfect day to honor Bibb County’s fallen heroes.

“They left successful businesses and promising careers; a lifetime of dreams they will never have an opportunity to to fulfill,” says Chief Riggins.

Steve Bell took his son to Monday’s ceremony. “We take for granted how we’re protected and kept safe, and we know those who have lost their lives… it really resonates to our hearts to say thank you,” says Bell.
