17-year-old Mary Persons High School student arrested for possible threat

Officials at Mary Persons High School were alerted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office about a possible school threat made via snapchat on September 17. 

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 17-year-old female student who attends Mary Persons High School was arrested on Tuesday for a school threat on social media, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials at Mary Persons High School were alerted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office about a possible school threat made via Snapchat on September 17.

The post did not mention the school, but it was made by a student who attended Mary Persons High School.

According to the sheriff’s office, the post was seen and reported by a friend of the 17-year-old alleged offender. The friend, who lives in Pembroke, reported the post to law enforcement in Pembroke, who then notified the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Monroe County Schools worked with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the potential threat.

The student was arrested when she arrived on campus.
