Warner Robins Prepares For Rival Northside

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Warner Robins Demons are hitting the practice field to prepare to face their rivals, the Northside Eagles, on Friday. These two have faced off 66 times, with the Demons leading the all time series 41-25.

Warner Robins has also won the last seven games against the school two miles up the road, including last season, when second-year Demons head coach Shane Sams had his first taste of the rivalry game as a coach, beating the Eagles 39-35.

No one on this team knows this rivalry better than Coach Sams since he was the Demons QB back in the mid 2000’s under Head Coach Bryan Way.

“This is one of the biggest rivalries,” Coach Sams said at Monday’s practice.  “I think it means a lot to the community, to the kids and how they operate what they do. I mean this is a very important rivalry to everybody. It’s something special. It’s one of the biggest in the country, and it’s the talk of the town. You get it for a year. You get to be the one that talks trash for a year, so it’s important.”

Coach Sams spoke about what it means to be a coach in this game now after experiencing it as both a former player and head coach.

“It’s something special, something you can’t take for granted, because it’s something you probably will never get used to. It’s always a special moment to be coaching the big game, and not many people get the opportunity. Some of the coaches that came with me and stuff like that, I always tell them what it’s like, and after we play, they say, “Coach, there is nothing like it, so it’s definitely something special to be a part of.”

Sams also discussed what his Demons will have to do this Friday to win a game with bragging rights on the line.

“We got to play a perfect football game,” he said. “They’re a really good team. They’re really well coached, they’re going to bring everything they’ve got, and we got to execute everything we plan to do.”
