Man arrested for aggravated assault on law enforcement in Macon, deputy injured
Harper faces charges of felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, felony aggravated assault on a peace officer, no valid insurance, and multiple other traffic and equipment violations.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in connection with aggravated assault on law enforcement, according to a media release.
The incident occurred on August 24 after they attempted to perform a traffic stop on Broadway on at 9 p.m.
Deputies saw a Ford Expedition traveling south on Broadway where the driver failed to dim his high beam headlights. The vehicle had canceled registration and no insurance.
Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a brief pursuit. The driver intentionally rammed a deputy’s patrol vehicle head on. The suspect then fled on foot, but deputies apprehended the suspect immediately afterwards.
One deputy sustained a non-life threatening injury and was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Matthew Eric Harper of Macon.
Harper was transported to a medical facility to receive treatment for minor injuries and later transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Harper faces charges of felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, felony aggravated assault on a peace officer, no valid insurance, and multiple other traffic and equipment violations.
Harper’s bond is currently denied.
